There’s a kind of honesty in that emptiness that maps onto the page itself — the machine doesn’t claim to feel the rules it applies, only to apply them consistently, the same way on a day weighted toward earth as on any other. Brian built the frame. The frame doesn’t editorialize about its builder, and the builder doesn’t touch what gets written inside it once the date is set.
